CLINICAL APPLICATION Quantitative Assessment in Breast Reconstruction
In breast reconstruction and other reconstructive procedures, tissue perfusion is an important factor when assessing flap viability, mastectomy skin flaps and tissue quality.
ICG fluorescence angiography is widely used to support intraoperative visual assessment of tissue perfusion. However, visual interpretation alone can be subjective, and there remains a recognised need for more standardised and reproducible approaches to perfusion assessment.
Note: By adding quantification to fluorescence imaging, PerfusionWorks supports a more objective approach to intraoperative perfusion assessment while remaining integrated within existing surgical workflows.
How it works
Quantitative fluorescence analysis can help address this challenge by transforming fluorescence imaging into measurable perfusion data. This allows surgeons to assess fluorescence dynamics more objectively and to compare perfusion across selected regions of tissue during the procedure.
PerfusionWorks supports reconstructive surgery workflows by providing objective quantitative perfusion information derived from fluorescence intensity analysis. Used alongside clinical judgement, this can support a more structured and measurable approach to tissue assessment.
In breast reconstruction, PerfusionWorks may support:
-
Quantitative assessment of flap or skin perfusion
-
Comparison of perfusion across selected regions of interest
-
Objective analysis of fluorescence inflow and wash-in dynamics
-
More consistent assessment within the surgical workflow
-
Measurement-led documentation to support clinical review and research
